Nostalgic Games I Played .........
Kerala Villages are rich in games and sports which are not listed in Olympics???. Some of the games which i used to play in my childhood days are listed below. Hope all of you know the game and its rules.
1.Kuttiyum Kolum
This game is similar to Cricket or Baseball except in scoring. Each team has 6 players. One player (scoring player) of one team will play against other team. Scoring player will have a longer stick (Kol) and shorter stick (Kutti) and he has to hit the Kutty from base with the Kol in different ways based on the last score ends. Aim is to reach the Kutty farthest so that, when the opposite team throw the Kutty back to the base, it will be hard to reach the base. Scoring is based on the distance between Kutty and Base. Scoring player will have another chance to hit Kutty again on the air, when other team throw the Kutty back to the base. Distance between the Kutty and base is measured by the Kol which will be converted to the score (6 measure of Kol is required to make one point.
Sub points are
Otta (1 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty with kol placing on one hand)
Muri (2 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty holding on other hand)
Naazhy(3 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty placing on two fingers)
Ighty (4 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty placing on elbow)
Aarenku (5 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty placing on eyes)
Saadu (6 measure, if the score ends on this, player has to hit the Kutty placing on leg )
Scoring player can be out in following situations
1. If the Kol does not hit Kutty when he hit
2. If Kutty is caught by the opposite team when scoring player hits Kutty (when other team throws)
and if the kutti goes behind the base
3. If Kutty is so close to the base that we can not measure one kol for scoring.
Each team gets one innings (each player one out) and whichever team gets maximum score win

Vattu is the malayalam name for marbles. Dont think that this game in the other way... that is vattammarude kali!!!!!!.

1. PAALA VANDI ( Car made from leaf of areknut tree or kamuke maram)
The construction of the paala vandi is very simple. It consists of a flat bed seat with a straight handle having spiked designs. Don’t be astonished with the description. Paala vandi is a small branch of a arekanut tree that has a flat surface at the edge that holds the tree with leaves connecting it to its top in a decreasing manner. See the picture below.....

Man invented wheels and started his journey towards innovation that is still continued in the latest cars, trains and all other means of transport that we can see today. Gadgets and most modern computers are been embedded into the vehicles to support and protect the human race and preserve its existence. They are all planned, designed, modelled, created and maintained by humans with some forces supported by Mother Nature. Still the last words are mother nature and this post is intended to introduce a means of transport that most of us forget or might have the memories buried deep under the hundredth rack of our mind-cupboards.
2. Cycle Tyre Car.......
Tyre vandi is a rare type of vandi used in villages by the school kids to run and ride... This is made from the second hand bicycle tyres. Tyre kept in standing position is hit with a kol (small piece of wooden stick) and the tyre starts rolling. Either we have to walk or run to control the tyre along your route. Different models of tyre vandi can be made based on your pocket money you have. Tyre vandi can also be attached to the cycle rim and ride. The rim alone can also be used as ride by holding a kole to the rinm gap and pushing the rim to roll forward.

Vellakka means tender coconut.
